Sophie's Farewell Party

Sadly, our language assistant Sophie Kate Ellis is leaving us tomorrow, that's why the students and teachers that have worked with her this year wanted to give her a surprise and farewell party. Poor Sophie did not expect that and she cried out of emotion when she saw how the students had prepared some best wishes cards and booklets for her and also gave her some gifts to show their gratitude. The school also thanked Sophie's good work by offering her a modern version of the most famous book written in Spanish :DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA and a colourful scarf.
It has been a pleasure to work with Sophie, we have learnt a lot of things with her and she has helped us a lot to improve our English. We wish her the very very best!!

¡Gracias por todo, Sophie. Te deseamos lo mejor!

April Fools' Day

Sophie's announcement you were asking about the whole week was a very surprising one. She told us she has been selected to take part in the British talent show "THE VOICE" . All of us got really shocked as we did not know she could sing as well as to be in such a TV programme. So, she has to leave for England next week and she will leave our school. Congratulations to her!!

APRIL FOOLS!!     APRIL FOOLS!!

So, this was our way to celebrate APRIL FOOLS'  DAY, with this funny prank Sophie played on us. But it was not the only surprise, after this, she explained to us some of the tricks or pranks she and her friends and family played this day and encouraged us to do something similar on April Fools' Day.

And last but not least, we had a quiz with some prizes (British tin boxes) and we also tasted British toffees and Scottish shortbread!!

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY PICTURES

Have a look at the pictures taken at Saint Patrick's Day celebration in IES Luis de Lucena! You can see our green-clad language assistant, Sophie, who told us lots of interesting things about the patron saint of Ireland. For instance, we learnt that he was born in Britain and before becoming a priest he was a shepherd and he was even kidnapped by some pirates. We also learnt that Ireland is called "The Emerald Island" because of its green countryside and because of green shamrocks, Ireland's best-known emblem. Finally we found out that Saint Patrick's Day  (17th March) is celebrated all over the world and even in space!!!

Many students came dressed in green but the student whose outfit really matched the spirit of the day was Alejandro Marco (1º Bachillerato), who was dresssed up as a real long-bearded leprechaun . He won the prize for the best Saint Patrick's Day outfit. Thanks for your attendance and we hope to see you again in next celebrations!!!

FILM OF THE MONTH: GREASE

California 1950s: Australian Sandy and local Danny fall in love at the beach, but when Sandy's family decides not to return to Australia and both teenagers meet surprisingly at the same secondary school, Danny has changed, he is a member of a greasers' gang (pandilla de engominados) and shows no interest in Sandy. Pero las apariencias engañan (appearances are deceitful) y Danny continúa secretamente enamorado de Sandy aunque se haga el duro delante de sus compañeros de pandilla e intentará conquistarla en un ambiente de baile y música rock.
Don't miss the opportunity to know or remember some of the most catchy tunes in the history of cinema. Come to see the film on :
